Hi! My name is Vladyslav. I live in Chernihiv. I study at school #35 and I am a pupil of the 8th form. I like to study English and it’s my favourite lesson. “Solutions pre intermediate” is our book. I have got student’s and work books. They are very interesting. Not only books help us to study English well but our teacher Yana Volodymyrivna also. She is very kind but a bit strict woman at the same time. She is a helpful and energetic person and she tries to do her best to explain us difficult English rules. Today I want to describe one of our English lessons that I enjoy very much. At the beginning of the lesson we saw five words on the board and Yana Volodymyrivna asked us to make a sentence from those words. Almost everybody understood that it was a proverb – “Our hobby is our friend”. Some students agreed with it another students didn’t agree and they explained their points of view. After that we guessed that the topic of our lesson was “Free time activities” and Yana Volodymyrivna asked us to complete the mind map “Free time activities”. We went to the board one by one and wrote the words. Alina is very clever so she wrote three activities. Then we asked each other about our favourite free time activities and I was very surprised when I learned that the quietest students in our class preferred going to the disco. We also spoke about activities that we couldn’t stand and explained why. It was unbelievable that Vika didn’t like music. She goes to musical school and plays piano. After that the teacher suggested to match two halves of the word combinations and choose the suitable picture to each of them. Students went to the board, matched and explained their attitude to the activities. After that we completed sentences with those word combinations. It was interesting because the pictures were so colorful, sentences were true to life and students were so creative. These tasks really helped me to memorize all the activities quickly. So I didn’t have to spend much time learning them at home. Then we worked in our students’ books. At first we read the dialogue about children’s hobby and decided if they were good friends. They weren’t because they knew nothing about each other. We found phrases in the dialogue that mean: I really like…, I hate…, I prefer…, I don’t like … very much, and would you like …. After that we listened to four dialogues about children’s hobbies and we tried to guess them. After listening we answered the teacher’s questions and completed the sentences with the words. We listened again and checked our answers. As for me, I’m very glad that we have books full of listening tasks because it’s a good opportunity to hear and understand native speakers. Yana Volodymyrivna always uses her laptop and tracks at the lessons. Unfortunately it’s only chance to hear native speakers. So we should listen very attentively. Of course we write in the copybooks. I know ordinal numerals pretty well so I like writing the date on the board. And at that lesson I wrote the date and then we worked in groups of four. We put words in the correct order to make questions. Each group had two questions I presented our group so I wrote questions on the board. Surely we wrote them in our copybooks. Actually I hate writing but I do it because I know that it is very important in learning English. I should speak fluently and write correctly and work hard if I want to pass the National Independent Testing. And at last we did the most exciting and my favourite activity. It was watching the video. I am crazy about it because I learn more about English people: what they wear, how they communicate, about their way of life. To tell you the truth we never just watch a video we always do some exercises before, while and after watching. And at our lesson we watched people talking about their hobbies. It was the dialogue between Rick and Charlotte. They were rather fashionable and wonderful children. After watching we completed the dialogue with the words. We checked it with the teacher. Finally Yana Volodymyrivna asked us to work in pairs and make the similar dialogues. I worked with Bohdan. It wasn’t difficult for us because we worked hard and did all exercises diligently. We acted out the dialogue in front of the class. Our acting was the best and we got excellent marks. As you see we did a lot of activities during the lesson. But my favourite were watching the video and acting out the dialogue. In conclusion, I’d like to say that it’s very interesting to have a hobby. Hobbies help us to learn more about our planet, to be more intelligent and well-educated. We should all have a hobby and our life will be more interesting. That lesson helped me to understand it.
