  • My name is Mariia and I am a pupil of the eighth form. I study at Gymnasium 4 in Mykolaiv. I consider that knowing English is extremely important these days. I always knew that I wanted to connect my life with English. That’s why I must make an effort in order to learn English. Knowing English is not only attending lessons but also watching foreign films, learning new words, reading books in English and if you have a chance you can communicate with foreigners. Before now English was a language that everyone had to know in order to show that he or she is an educated person. Nowadays English is taught throughout the world and other languages are gaining popularity. There are Chinese and Japanese classes, for instance. So, nowadays not speaking English is a disadvantage for most of people. I learn English at school and I attend extra English classes because I know that I need to develop my skills. I consider English to be flowery and fascinating language to learn. The pupils of our school learn different languages: Ukrainian, English, French and German. I learn English, Ukrainian and German, however I feel more natural speaking English. I have my English classes two times a week. Maybe someone will think it is not enough to master the language but our teacher does everything possible for us to succeed in getting the best knowledge and the latest information about new trends and changes in the language. Every Monday I take my English textbook, vocabulary and exercise-book and go to my English lesson. The bell rings and the teacher and the pupils come into the classroom. We sit down at our desks, open our textbooks and the lesson begins. At our lessons we listen to the tape recorder, ask each other various questions and speak out on what we have heard. Sometimes it is a story, sometimes it is a dialogue or a conversation. These lessons are not very long but they are always very interesting. We speak English a lot, but we also read texts from our textbook. During the lessons we also write sentences on the blackboard, learn grammar rules and do exercises. Twice a month we have our home reading lesson. At this lesson we speak about what we have read and discuss interesting episodes from our books. I never get bad marks in English because I always prepare my homework well. I like English lessons very much and come to them with joy. Once we had a special lesson when we used the latest technologies. It was cool! The topic of the lesson was “Are You a Good Team?” We came into the classroom and saw cards with special drawing. We couldn`t understand what we would do with these cards. But the teacher explained that it was new technology and it became more and more popular. So we were hardly waiting for the task with these cards. We started with warming-up activities: made a Mind-Map “Team”, did the quiz “Are You a Part of Team?” and discussed pros and cons of working in a team. After that we learned new words, two pupils made word combinations and wrote down them on the board and then we made funny sentences with these word combinations. The next step was reading the text. We read it and translated in two groups. After that we played a game Crosses and Noughts. My group was lucky and we won! Then we had to do the test with a help of the paper clickers which we had seen at the beginning of the lesson. On the board there were questions with answers (a,b,c,d) and after each question we had to raise a card choosing the right letter. The teacher scanned our answers using her phone and we saw our results on the board. This program is called Plickers and it was the most interesting and engrossing part of the lesson. Using this app activated and engaged all pupils of our class. I think that such new ideas at the lesson can help to check knowledge in a very fast and exciting way and pupils will try to work harder to reach better results. By the way, in this app you can see the order of answers and of course everybody wants not only to give a right answer but also to be the first. So, to my mind it’s very cool to check tasks this way. But at that lesson it was not the only one task that I liked. Also we role-played interesting situations in small teams. I like it because such activity helps us to improve our speaking skills and we can imagine ourselves in different roles. So, that lesson I liked very much and I wish everybody has such fascinating and useful lessons! My name is Mariia and I am a pupil of the eighth form. I study at Gymnasium 4 in Mykolaiv.
