Hi! My name is Veronika and I’m cheerful Ukrainian girl from Sumy, which is “The Town where our dreams come true”, “The Town on the river Psel”, “The Town of Roses”. As for me I am a student of the seventh form at Sumy school number five. Frankly speaking, I try to do my best and study well. No doubt, we have a lot of classes: Ukrainian Language and Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, History and Computer Science. Obviously, we also study foreign languages, they are typically German and English. Speaking for myself, I study English and it is my favorite subject, my cup of tea actually. To tell the truth, I believe that English can give me a new challenge to travel and see the world, develop myself, get acquainted with other cultures and people. I must admit that Galileo was right saying “You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself”. I’m convinced that the teacher of English always gives me a helping hand to get my own priorities straight. Personally I think the job of a teacher is very difficult and it’s one of the noblest professions in the world. A teacher is the kindest, the most necessary and charitable person. It is one of the most responsible professions because the teacher does not deal with machines or objects, but with children, the most precious and vulnerable “material”. The teacher should be a model, a sample to follow because it is common knowledge that children are big parrots, they like to imitate adults, especially those in authority. So, a real example for me is a teacher. Absolutely my English teacher usually says that this language is very important to study because it is spoken all over the world. I also think it is worth studying, that’s why I work hard at it. It goes without saying every lesson my teacher tries to teach us something new and interesting and develop our desire to know English better. No doubt, we study pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. From day to day we read aloud, spell words, analyse rules, do exercises orally and in writing, make up and act out dialogues, practise phonetics, learn tongue twisters, prepare project words, watch foreign films and videos, sing songs, discuss important topics, listen to recorders and what not. Our teacher finds interesting films on a variety of topics depending on the theme of our lesson. I can say our lessons are quite interesting and there’s intimate environment so everybody feels comfortable and relaxed. We aren’t afraid of making mistakes. We have the following words as a rule: “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better”. The lesson that just crossed my mind is one of the best. We studied the topic “Travelling” and that class was dedicated to London trip and means of transport. It should be noted that we’ve learnt a lot about Great Britain and London at previous classes. And this lesson was just general conclusion. The teacher organized not usual lesson, it was in the form of TV program. Actually, we have two newscasters – our teacher and my classmate. In my opinion, it was a creative lesson. It is important to note that each step was made as a part of TV program. So, we “switched on our TV” and started to work. Our teacher said that “the mind is like a parachute, it works when it’s open”. So, there were a lot of tasks to think over. It turned out that that kind of work helped us to develop our thinking skills. We did the crossword, solved the puzzles, made a cluster “Things for a trip”, learnt new facts about transport in Ukraine, work with infographic, which was a new thing to us, made Van Diagram and presented our projects which we had prepared before. I made an interesting presentation, in which I told about my most interesting trip to Shostka by bus. I pointed out that “He who travels far knows much. And travelling helps us to learn more about different people and cultures”. These words have proven in my own experience. From my point of view, the most marvelous thing at the lesson was “TV program with the 6th form”. Our teacher prepared a video with my classmates and they told about their best trips and the place of travelling in their lives”. It was so interesting to watch this short film, we were as real TV stars. Everybody liked it. In addition, it helped us to practise in speaking and listening. Moreover, we had TV commercial – time for relaxation and having a bit of rest. Actually, we were dancing, it was so funny advertisement. I think that I can speak about this lesson a lot. I’d like to have such classes oftener, because it’s not just studying, but also entertainment and creative way of learning and discussing topics. Every class is filled with activities, discoveries and accomplishments. I’m sure, “Who knows the language is at home everywhere”.
